Curling Finish on Brass
Overview
Curling finish is added to brass parts to hide mars on the surface of the part as it is used over time. As Charles Holtzapffel noted his father saying,
The curled surfaces are desirable, in so much as any accidental little injuries or rubbing, arising from the continued use of the articles, are less observable upon curled surfaces than upon similar pieces laid with an even grain; and the curled parts mixed with the bright edges have a good effect.
