A Bezel Chuck (also known as a jewler's or watch maker's chuck) is used to hold objects like medallions. It is particularly useful for guilloché work.
Lindow Machine Works makes a "pie chuck" which is a combination of a bezel chuck with a leveling chuck.

You can delay getting one of these. Frankly, unless you have the need for one, you could make a load of stuff never having one of these. But, if you are getting seriously into guilloché, you will probably need to get one.
